In 2018, I spearheaded an initiative of CAA’s Education Committee to organize a one-day SoTL “Bootcamp” in conjunction with its 2018 Annual Conference in Los Angeles.
The program was designed provide information and resources to art historians and visual arts educators interested in pursuing Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) projects. With generous support from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, the University of Southern California, AHSC (Art Historians of Southern California), and CAA, this free unconference, which took place Saturday, February 24, 2018, featured lightning talks by art historians experienced in SoTL and educational research, participant-led working sessions on pedagogical and SoTL topics, and a hands-on practicum on developing SoTL projects in art history and the humanities. Additionally, funding provided stipends for four student fellows to participate and assist in the day’s activities, in addition to registration for the conference.
